1. Freewrite.

2. Thesis review. Students were asked questions to help them review the qualities of a thesis statement.

3. How to outline an essay. Ms. Garvoille demonstrated how students might outline an essay about The Outsiders using W8: Basic Essay Outline.

4. Students gathered in their motif groups to outline their essays into topic sentences.

5. Finding evidence. Students used Finding Evidence for a Body Paragraph to find quotes that supported their thesis statements.

6. Finally, students received Writing a Body Paragraph Rough Draft. This should be filled out for homework using the evidence found in class.

HW: Finish Writing a Body Paragraph Rough Draft for class on Thursday.

Absentees: Contact someone in your motif group to get your topic sentence. Then, fill out Finding Evidence for a Body Paragraph using The Outsiders. If you don’t have the book, use events for evidence. Then, fill out Writing a Body Paragraph Rough Draft based on your evidence.
